Welcome!
I'm Yoko Loftis, a Japanese artist living in Oklahoma. I was born and raised in the Greater Tokyo area and moved to Oklahoma when I was 19. I graduated from St. Gregory’s University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2006. Since then, I've worked on various creative projects, including illustrating the children's book, painting murals for local businesses, and teaching drawing and painting classes at local art galleries.
In 2013, I started painting custom pet portraits while working at a locally owned pet boutique. At the time, my children were still young, so I painted during nights and weekends outside of my regular job. A few years later, I began taking commissions online, and over the past decade, I’ve painted more than a hundred pet portraits. Gradually, I transitioned to painting full-time, focusing on both commissions and personal creative projects.
When I'm not making art, I enjoy hiking when the weather permits, weight training, watching movies, reading books, and video editing.
We also have two dogs, Marty the hound and Hugo the husky mix. Their personalities are quite opposite, but their love of food is something they share.
My art is deeply rooted in the tradition of representational painting. I love the feel of visible brushstrokes and use them as a way to communicate with the viewer. Each piece reflects how I see the world—celebrating reality through an optimistic lens.
